in my kitchen

Maybe I haven’t told you about my kitchen?

You see, I love my kitchen so much. I love to cook, but mostly and truly I love to bake. Now…I wish that meant we were up to our elbows in fresh baked bread every week, but the kind of baking I love to do is the kind that has a stick or two of butter in, needs to be rolled out on a lightly floured surface, and is usually cut or folded into intricate shapes or pockets. In other words…I love to bake the most flaky, complicated recipes I can find. Why is that? ohhhhh. Perhaps it is because it is somewhat like making a craft…all those steps, attention to detail, and beautifully imperfect results. I do love an imperfect pastry…

another cake

I was very displeased with the overly complicated cake I tried to make for my birthday. Partly because I am famous for reading only half the recipe and finding myself way in over my head when actually making the recipe. Usually the result of this is that I totally half-ass the recipe and make a gross version of what was supposed to be amazing. I’m not even sure that was the case with the cake I tried baking for my birthday. Mostly I think I wouldn’t have like it even if I had done it right. I ate it. I mean it was, afterall, my birthday cake…but it left a longing for some really yummy cake deep in my inner being.

Thankfully, today, when I looked at one the blogs I frequent called Angry Chicken…I found this recipe for a very simple and quick cake that looks just like what I am wanting. It is currently in the oven with three minutes to go. I believe my longing will soon be fulfilled.
